It sounds like satire. It isn’t.
In Longyearbyen, a remote town in Svalbard, people are strongly discouraged from dying.
The reason is the ground itself. The permafrost prevents bodies from decomposing, meaning viruses from decades ago can remain intact.
Because of this, burials are not allowed, and seriously ill residents are often transported to mainland Norway.
So technically, if you’re about to die, you’re expected to leave town.
